I love my job.
I love that I get to experience the excitement and joy and awe when someone conquers a new skill or thinks of a new way of doing something…a new way!!! That’s exciting!
Art can open our eyes. We see the whole world from a new point of view. It’s almost like another sense that we learn to access, an intuition, a trust in self.
We need more creativity in this life. Without trying new things, we stagnate and keep repeating the same old habits. Art practice kicks us out of the mold and into a whole new world of wonder.
I couldn’t ask for a better life than helping people find this wonder for themselves, and I get to witness this, over and over again. I am honoured and blessed.
I knew I wanted to be an artist as soon as I could hold a pencil. I chose my high school for its extensive fine and graphic art programs. In Higher education I studied fine art, art history and theatre design. I continue to broaden my tastes and experiences with classes and workshops. Yes, for my own art practice, but also to bring new ideas to you!

Art invites us, young and old, to explore, play, problem solve, and even rest and heal. When we slow down and allow ourselves to create, the outside world, for a time, is further away, quieter, and less pressing. We can immerse ourselves in the experience of making something that didn’t exist before. We can find courage in generating ideas and peace in our brushstrokes.
Formerly a high school art teacher, I now help artists and writers as a teacher, coach, consultant, and editor. I learned visual arts through university and college courses, classes at the Ottawa School of Art, and from many local artists and arts organizations. But I am a learner and educator for life, and am continually drawn to new art experiences.
My favourite art teachers taught me to be curious and patient, to test and adapt, and to trust and respect the creative process rather than demanding a perfect finished product. I hope I can instill these values and joys in those who come through my classes.

Discover your inner artist!
At Crayon Box Studio, we strive to make art accessible, hands-on, and simple. Our classes focus on creativity and imagination, as well as traditional techniques. Each lesson allows students to explore different mediums while developing their artistic processes. We introduce art history and encourage discussion, curiosity, and opinion. Above all, we are passionate about fostering a love of art in our students and instilling the belief in their creative abilities.
Nurturing creative expression has numerous benefits. Being immersed in the tactile world of art boosts self-confidence, relieves stress, improves problem-solving skills, and helps us process the world around us. Making art can be life-changing, and it’s never too late to start!
We teach classes for all ages and student levels. View our class pages for more information and join an upcoming session!
Private lessons and private group lessons are also available.
